|HORSE AND JOCKEY AYLESBURY 1974 - BY PETER LOCKE||ARISTOCRAT AYLESBURY 2010 - BY STEVE LOCKE|
Just one of Aylesbury's many pubs which have changed names or simply disappeared, the Horse and Jockey (not to be confused with the pub of the same name on the Buckingham Road) which later became the Aristocrat. As can be seen from the picture the main building is mostly unchanged, but has been extended and modernised. This would have been one of the earlier pubs in which I would have had a drink in the early 1970's, I can distinctly remember being asked if I was 18 (which of course I was not!), the first time I entered the pub by the landlord Dave Archer who later became landlord of the Broad Leys just a couple of hundred yards away, up the Wendover Road (we shall be featuring 'Then and Now' pictures of the Broad Leys Aylesbury shortly).
